Ustedes bids for big-race double

Voy Por Ustedes will face just six rivals as he bids for a big-race double in the John Smith’s Maghull Novices’ Chase at Aintree tomorrow.

Alan King’s five-year-old was an impressive winner of the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham and he will try to add this Grade One, also over two miles, to his haul.

French raider Foreman, who finished third at Cheltenham for Thierry Doumen, reopposes as does the Paul Nicholls-trained Cerium, who was 10th in the Arkle.

Nicholls also sends out Hoo La Baloo and Le Volfoni, while Paul Nolan’s Accordion Etoile bids to make amends after crashing out at the eighth fence in the Arkle.

However, Nolan is concerned by the rain that fell at the Liverpool venue on Thursday and has warned his seven-year-old may sidestep the race if conditions are too testing.

“If there’s no more rain, he will run but the weather is a bit of a worry at the moment,” said the County Wexford handler.

“I walked the track this morning and I would have said the ground was what we would call yielding in Ireland.

“If it were good to soft we would run but I wouldn’t be so keen if it were soft as Punchestown is coming up too.

“He’s been 100% since Cheltenham though, he’s been very good in his work and we’re really happy with him.”

Henry Daly’s Green Tango, seventh in the Grand Annual Chase at Cheltenham, completes the line up.
