Kinane places hope in Gold

Mick Kinane hopes that Gold For Sale can be the one to break his Dubai World Cup meeting duck when the Saudi Arabian runner lines-up in Saturday’s UAE Derby.

The 46-year-old rider has wins at virtually all of racing’s biggest international contests to his name, but has drawn a blank in 15 mounts so far on World Cup night.

The Irishman hopes to set the record straight with four rides on Saturday, the undoubted pick of which is UAE 2000 Guineas winner Gold For Sale.

However, along with Godolphin’s Discreet Cat, the horse from which the four-year-old has most to fear is his Ian Jory-trained stablemate Simpatico Bribon.

The pair trade at 4-1 and 2-1 respectively in William Hill’s betting for the race.

“I don’t think there is much between them and it is certainly going to be interesting,” Kinane said.

“It was a big effort from my fellow when he won here. I got a bit behind and we got pushed wide on the bend but he made up about 12 lengths in the straight to win going right away.

“I’ve been out here for about three years now and I have never seen a horse do that before. I was really impressed with him and although there is a bit of question mark about the trip, I think he’s got a really good chance.”
