Scotmail Boy retired from racing

Scotmail Boy has been retired after breaking down during last Saturday’s Betfred Gold Cup at Sandown.

The Howard Johnson-trained 11-year-old was pulled up before the third-last fence by Graham Lee and will now return to the home of his owner, George Tobitt.

Johnson’s wife Sue told the Racing Post: “There was a chance we might have retired him anyway but now that decision has been made for us. He used to spend his summer break with George and now he’s gone home for good.

“He’s been a great servant and a real hero for us – he finished such a brave third in the Topham Chase at Aintree – and we will all miss him in the yard.”
