Aaroness can get back to winning ways
Jim Bolger’s filly could only manage ninth of 11 at the Curragh last month, but it would be harsh to judge her on just that display.
There are solid reasons to explain such a performance. Firstly it was the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes, won by Grand Ducal over a trip, ten furlongs, which was too far and on an unsuitably heavy surface.
Previously, Aaroness made an excellent seasonal debut in another Group 3 at Leopardstown when runner-up behind Baliyana over a mile on good ground.
The selection, a smart juvenile, is easily best in at the weights and can get back to winning ways.
Aidan O’Brien’s Changingoftheguard, a costly failure at the Curragh, is fancied to redress the balance in the Peter O’Brien Landscapes Maiden.
He went off at 4-9 then, but could only finish third behind Jim Bolger’s L’impresario and John Oxx’s Eytarna.
That was a disappointing effort, but the son of Montjeu is is worth another chance, in what looks a much weaker race.
O’Brien’s Reggae Dancer, a modest fourth to Velvet Flicker at Leopardstown, can be expected to improve plenty and gets the nod in the Lynn Lodge EBF Maiden.
Cuan Na Grai, taken out at Roscommon on Monday, because the ground was deemed to be too quick, will hopefully take his chance in the Hyundai Sonata Novice Chase at Clonmel.
Impressive when running away with a modest event at Killarney, Paul Nolan’s former Galway Hurdle hero has to be choice.
