General Montcalm can lead them home
Edward O’Grady’s charge stays really well and should, at worst, give us a big run. In early February, at Thurles, the six-year-old indicated he was on the upgrade when finishing strongly to beat Castle Weir comfortably.
Less than three weeks later, this time at Fairyhouse, that impression was confirmed when the selection had Castle Weir 11 lengths behind in fourth spot when half a length second to Glenduff Bridge (levels).
That was a fine effort on the part of Glenduff Bridge, but he has since been less impressive at Downpatrick, scrambling home from three horses who have all since been well beaten, and General Montcalm is preferred on this occasion.
The well-regarded John Berry trained Bewleys Berry is fancied to land the Sunnyhill Stud Bumper.
The son of Shernazar was an odds-on chance when cruising to victory in his maiden at Wexford back in May.
He has certainly gone the right way in two outings this year, taking a winners of two at Loughrea and then returning to Wexford to land another winners of two unextended by 15 lengths.
Vicars Way is the choice to provide the answer to the Old Vic Maiden Hurdle.
Pat Sinnott’s charge would obviously be an appropriate winner, considering he is by that stallion.
Vicars Way won his maiden at Dromahane in January by 25 lengths and wasn’t seen again until reappearing at Oldcastle in Co Meath late last month.
The selection was clearly well fancied to do the business, going off the 5-4 market-leader, but parted company with his rider at the fifth, when in front.
