Radek Szaganski's journey at the World Darts Championship was brought to an abrupt end as he was beaten in the second round by five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld on Friday night
Szaganski, originally from Poznan, moved to Ireland in 2006 to help fund his wedding, and he has settled in Cork, where he works as a driver for Bus Éireann.
He reached the second stage of the competition after coming from two sets to one down in his first-round clash with Finland's Marko Kantele, the highlight of which was a stunning 142 checkout on double 11.
Szaganski, who lives in Cobh, was awarded for that victory with the opportunity to test himself against Dutch legend van Barneveld at the iconic Alexandra Palace where another triumph would have moved him into the top 64 in the world rankings.
But despite a valiant display, it wasn't to be his night as Van Barneveld showed his class to seal his place in the fourth round with a 3-1 win.
Szaganski made his opponent work for it though by winning the third set having trailed 2-0 and he also won two legs in the final round to keep himself in contention.
But in the end it's the Barney Army driving into the last 32.
