Rusedski happy to be in the clear

Greg Rusedski has expressed his feeling of “vindication” at being cleared of any wrong-doing following his positive test for nandrolone.

The British number two heard yesterday that an independent panel acting on behalf of the Association of Tennis Professionals had concluded he should not face a ban.

Rusedski today greeted that as the “right decision”, adding he wants to put the whole experience behind him.

“You cannot imagine what the last six months have been like. It has been horrendous and like a roller-coaster ride,” the British number two said on Sky Sports News.

“I feel vindicated and I am looking forward to getting back to my tennis.”

Rusedski insists he always believed he would be cleared, as were seven of his fellow professionals who argued their positive tests for the performance-enhancing substance were the result of taking supplements given to them by the ATP’s own officials.

“I was confident, but during this process you never know what is going to happen,”, said Rusedski.

“I am glad they came back with the right decision. But it just took so long and was difficult for me, my family and fans.”

The Canada-born former US Open finalist added he is not yet in any position to comment on how the situation has been handled by the ATP.

“I have not had time to read the report, so I don’t want to put any blame on anyone at the moment,” he said.

“I just hope this can make me stronger somehow.”
