Irish relay hopefuls shine at Belgium meet

The Irish women’s 4x400m relay team got a timely boost on the eve of the European championships when they dominated the women’s 400m in Nivelles, Belgium, at the weekend.

Marian Heffernan recorded her second fastest time ever to win in 53.19, with Jessie Barr posting a career best 53.70 for second and Michelle Carey third in 53.71 followed by Claire Bergin, 53.90.

“That’s a huge boost for the 4x400m team,” Olympic team manager, Patsy McGonagle, said.
