Davenport wins Boston 10k race

Marie Davenport continued her landmark season on Monday by beating a strong field at the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women in Boston.

The 29-year-old from Ennistymon, Co Clare, has had a standout campaign this summer, setting a personal best over 10,000 metres of 31 minutes 28.78 seconds and then finishing an impressive 14th in the Olympic final over the same distance in Athens in August.

The Connecticut-based former Providence College runner has since successfully defended her CVS Pharmacy Downtown 5K title in Boston and she returned to the city’s roads on Columbus Day to win the 10K in 32:48 ahead of Ethiopia’s Genet Gebregiorgis in 33:09.

Amy Yoder-Begley’s third-place time of 33:11.9 earned her the USA National 10K Championship title as fastest finishing American.
