Hatton predicting tough fight
The Manchester ‘Hitman’ will defend his WBU light-welterweight title for the 15th time against the American at the ExCel Arena in London. He admits the power-packed style of opponent will offer a real examination of his credentials as he bids for a victory that would keep him on course for a showdown with IBF title holder Kostya Tszyu next year.
“This is probably the first time I’ll step in the ring against somebody who likes to throw more punches than me,” said the 26-year-old.
“He comes forward, he likes to have a go, has a high work-rate and is a good fighter like myself, so it can’t fail to be anything but exciting. It certainly won’t be dull.”
Challenger Oliveira has dismissed suggestions he will struggle to make the 140-pound weight limit, and has begun the war of words ahead of the fight.
The 36-year-old outpointed WBA champion Vivian Harris in 2000 but has not fought a genuine top-class opponent for three years.
