Tralee Golf Links are relishing the opportunity to stage the 2026 Arnold Palmer Cup in front of a global television audience next month following the announcement that Golf Channel Mobile is to livestream the collegiate Ryder Cup-style event from July 3-5.
Golfing legend Palmer, who co-founded the tournament, featuring some of the world’s best young male and female players as team-mates and playing partners, designed the world-renowned Barrow links in Kerry and the host club is delighted to provide the backdrop for the 30th edition of the USA v International clash.
And with all four matchplay sessions from Friday to Sunday being livestreamed, Tralee GC general manager Maurice O’Meara said: “This will really get us on the map. In terms of the Golf Channel coverage, it'll get the amazing vistas of the golf course to places that they may not have been seen before.
“It'll certainly improve our profile and one of our strategic objectives was to increase that profile worldwide. A lot of people know us, but some people don't know us so we want to make sure it's as wide-reaching as possible and, of course, it'll help us get to a wider audience.”
O’Meara said entrance to watch the matches would be free and he particularly encouraged young golfers to make the effort to attend and potentially catch future golfing superstars in action.
“It's not just about the event week, it's about strengthening the club's position for the next generation. We have a very good junior contingent here and a lot of work has gone into the junior coaching by our junior committee. So, it's part of that as well.
“We want the kids to see who knows what future superstar is going to be here. Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa and Bryson DeChambeau played this, and we know we're going to be looking at superstars, we just don't know which ones.
“Who knows, in five or six years, we could say ‘there was the next Rory on the seventh fairway in Tralee’, so that's really important. It's about the event week, it's really important and we're going to do it really well. It's also about the after-effect of that and the legacy and that's what we're doing with all our plans.”
