Kaymer determined to maintain momentum

Martin Kaymer is in agreement with Rory McIlroy about the importance of maintaining the momentum of his current form.

The 29-year-old German is leading the field going into third round of the US Open. He stands at ten-under, six shots clear of next placed Brendon Todd, with Brandt Snedeker and Kevin Na at three-under.

McIlroy was interviewed after day two and believes Kaymer should not attempt to change his play:

“Especially on a golf course like this, you can’t go out trying to protect anything. You’ve just got to keep the foot to the floor and just keep it going.”

Speaking ahead today’s round Kaymer is hoping to maintain his level.

“I think it is important to keep going and not try to relax, you know. There is still lots of stuff to improve but the way I play now is quite nice.

“I’m hitting the ball very solidly right now.”

The first of today’s groups tees off at 4.22pm Irish time.
