Nightmare finish for Ferrie in Paris

Four months after a European Tour record-equalling 60 England’s Kenneth Ferrie had a rather different experience in Paris today – a 17-over-par 88.

Ferrie finished the Alstom French Open at Le Golf National by dropping 11 shots in the last five holes. He bogeyed the long 14th, had a quadruple bogey eight at the 15th, a triple bogey six on the next, bogeyed the 17th and double-bogeyed the 18th.

The 32-year-old posted a 25-over-par total which left him 34 shots behind overnight leaders Mark Foster and James Morrison.

Colin Montgomerie was going rather better, turning in 33 after a birdie on the second and eagle at the long ninth.

He was up from 36th to 17th, but still a long way from achieving the top-five finish that could bring him a place in The Open the week after next.
