Ryder Cup golfer Soren Hansen has been fined for tax evasion.

The Dane has been ordered to pay more than £750,000 (€868,000) after the Copenhagen City Court ruled he was guilty of evasion from 2002 to 2006.

The world number 58, a member of Nick Faldo’s Ryder Cup side two years ago, had claimed residency in Monaco during that period.

The court ruled that Hansen actually lived in Denmark and avoided Danish taxes.

Hansen is playing for a first prize of over £637,000 (€737,000) in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this week, and was among the early first-round leaders today.
