Kingston clinches Cologne crown

South African James Kingston won the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne after a play-off with Dane Anders Hansen.

Kingston was two ahead with two to play, but three-putted the 17th after Hansen had holed from eight feet for birdie. However, Hansen then failed to get up and down from a bunker on the first extra hole.

Joint third were another Dane, Soren Hansen, Swede Peter Hanson and England’s Simon Dyson.

All three needed a closing birdie to be in the play-off and Dyson had the best chance, but left his 20-foot attempt short.

Darren Clarke finished best of the Irish on -6.
