Thaworn takes one-shot lead in Jakarta

Thaworn Wiratchant made light work of a weather-interrupted second round of the Indonesia President Invitational today to card a second straight six-under-par 66 and climb into a one-stroke lead.

The Thai star carded six birdies in a faultless round at the Damai Indah Golf-Bumi Serpong Damai course to move on to 12 under overall and one shot ahead of Australian Adam Blyth, who carded a 66 to climb to second.

South Korea’s Lee Sung is third following a 67 while compatriot Ted Oh is fourth after also carding a 67.

Englishman Chris Rodgers is in a share of fifth place at four shots off the pace alongside Philippine duo Artemio Murakami and Antonio Lascuna, Australian Marcus Both, Finland’s Pasi Purhonen and South Korean Kim Dae-hyun.

“Everything worked nicely today,” said Thaworn.

“I hit my irons close for my birdies and the longest putt was at the 10th hole when I holed out from just off the green from about eight yards. That was nice.”

Lightning stopped play for just over an hour with Thaworn two under through four holes, but he returned after the delay to card four more birdies and take the outright lead.

“We wanted to finish the round,” added the 10-time Asian Tour winner.

“I really kept my concentration well and I hope to keep playing well.

“My confidence is really good and if I can keep doing what I am doing, I will be all right for the weekend. It’s quite a bunched leaderboard so I have to keep playing well to win.”
