Wayward Westwood loses ground
Lee Westwood found the trees with his first two shots and immediately suffered a setback to his European Order of Merit title hopes when the Volvo Masters resumed at Valderrama today.
Only four hours of play were possible yesterday, so the second round had still to be completed.
Although it was still raining at 8.30am, play did restart on time, only for Westwood to bogey the opening hole after he drove left and then pushed his approach right.
Failing to get up and down dropped him to level par and the 2000 European number one, needing to win the event to have a chance of finishing top again, was six behind leader Soren Kjeldsen.
Current money list leader Robert Karlsson resumed with five straight pars to remain three over, while playing partner Miguel Angel Jimenez, his hopes of the victory he needed almost certainly over when he dropped seven shots in four holes yesterday, remained nine over at the turn.
Padraig Harrington, for whom a top-two finish could be good enough, was five over with two to play.
Kjeldsen and Sergio Garcia, three behind in second place, both set off with par fours.
