Clarkes Opens hopes hit

Darren Clarke’s hopes of extending a run in The Open going back to 1991 faded further today with a four-over-par 74 in the opening round of the 36-hole European qualifier at Sunningdale.

“That is my worst-ever score here and I’m going fishing in three weeks’ time - that’s the way it would appear,” said Clarke.
