Ricardo Gonzalez was the early pacesetter this morning as the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship got underway.

He reached the turn at four under par after making a storming start with five birdies in his opening six holes. The Argentinian’s only blemish was a dropped shot at the par-four fifth.

England’s Oliver Fisher and Wales’ Jamie Donaldson were joined one shot back on three under par by Denmark’s Soren Hansen, Finland’s Mikko Ilonen and Sweden’s Henrik Stenson.

Ireland's Padraig Harrington is on par after 16 holes, while Darren Clarke is two shots better off on one under after 17 holes.
