Harrington battles on in Carnoustie

While others may well have cursed and stormed off, Padraig Harrington refused to let a closing double-bogey six depress him in the Open at Carnoustie today.

“I don’t think it will affect the outcome of my tournament,” said the Irishman, whose 73 left him on level par at halfway.

“It’s a disappointing finish, but it’s easy to take six down the last, so it’s not out of the blue.

“There are still 36 holes to go and I probably would have taken level par before the start. I have just got to play my own game – there is a lot of golf left in this tournament.

“Maybe I will be more aggressive being level par.”

Harrington, with eight top-10 finishes in majors, had two birdies and two bogeys over the first 16 holes, but then pushed his final drive, had to lay up short of the Barry Burn and then three-putted from less than 15 feet.
