Wie waylaid

Michelle Wie’s comeback from a wrist injury ended miserably today as she withdrew from the Ginn Tribute in South Carolina.

After shooting 14 over par through 16 holes, the 17-year-old star from Hawaii admitted defeat in her battle against the injury, which had sidelined her since January.

Wie wore bandages on her wrists during the round and said her withdrawal was because she “tweaked” the injury and not because of an LPGA rule which bans non-tour members for the year if they shoot 88 or higher.

She was just two bogeys away from that prospect.
