Donald shares lead in Hawaii
Luke Donald shared the lead with Paul Goydos at 11-under 129 at the end of the second round of the Sony Open in Hawaii yesterday.
Donald carded a four-under-par 66 while Goydos a seven-under 63 to go two shots ahead of Chad Campbell.
“The first 12 holes were a mixture of some good shots, but a lot of scrappy shots as well,” said Donald. “I hit a nice drive on 13 and that got my confidence back a bit.”
Hawaiian teenager Tadd Fujikawa became the second youngest player to make a cut in PGA Tour history when he produced a brilliant second round.
Four days after turning 16, Fujikawa overshadowed another local teenager, shooting 66 for a three-under 137 halfway total at Waialae Country Club.
He finished in style, knocking in a long eagle putt at the par-five 18th, before giving a Tiger-like fist pump as the gallery went wild.
“I’m playing great right now,” Fujikawa said. “I can’t breathe right now. To make the cut is an awesome thing.”
Michelle Wie flamed out again, shooting 76 to finish near last at 14-over 154, the fourth consecutive time she has been out of her depth against the men.
