Mickelson out of Hawaii Grand Slam showpiece

Ryder Cup flop Phil Mickelson has pulled out of the Grand Slam of Golf in Hawaii in November.

The world number two and Masters champion, not playing this week's World Championship at The Grove near Watford, scored of only half a point in America's weekend defeat to Europe.

The Grand Slam of Golf is designed to bring together the year's four major winners, but the withdrawal of Mickelson and the fact Tiger Woods won both the Open and the US PGA means two replacements have been called in.

Based on their performances in the majors, American Jim Furyk and Canadian Mike Weir step into the four-man field alongside Woods and Australian Geoff Ogilvy.

Furyk was joint second in the US Open behind Ogilvy and fourth in the Open, while 2003 Masters champion Weir's sixth place finishes in the US Open and US PGA enabled him to qualify.

Scotland's Colin Montgomerie was joint second with Furyk and Mickelson in the US Open, but missed the cut in the other three majors.
