Woods and Quigley top leaderboard

Tiger Woods was tied for the lead in the Buick Classic when the second round was suspended due to fading light.

Being in contention here is nothing new for Woods, who has finished in the top four in each of his last four visits, including a victory in 2002.

Woods looks to be on his way to another strong finish.

The world’s top-ranked player carded seven birdies without a bogey through 15 holes, moving to 13-under.

He had four birdies on the front nine, then three in a row from numbers 12-14 before a par on his final hole of the day.

This is Woods’ first tournament since he captured the British Open two weeks ago for his 11th major title.

Unlike Woods, who still has three holes to go, Brett Quigley was able to complete his second round.

Quigley signed for a six-under-par 66 to move to 13-under through 36 holes.

He tied Woods with a birdie at the par-four 18th.

Woods and a host of players will return to the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club on Saturday morning to finish the second round before third-round play starts.

Forced to play 30 holes due to Thursday’s suspended first round, Jeff Sluman and Bo Van Pelt are two shots behind Woods and Quigley.

However, each completed the second round Friday.

“I was pleasantly surprised,” said Sluman, who shot a five-under 67.

“I woke up this morning with about three hours of sleep. I woke up at 2.30am and have been up ever since. I was exhausted starting the round.

“And the way I felt, I didn’t know if I could play all 30. But as the day progressed, I felt a little better.”

Van Pelt played a bogey-free round en route to a 66.

Two-time defending champion Vijay Singh is also in contention.

The Fijian completed 10 holes at two-under to move to 10-under overall, just three shots off the pace.

There are 11 golfers within three shots of the lead.
