Top two switch places in US

Retief Goosen and Jim Furyk changed places at the top of the leaderboard when they finally got the chance to start the final round of the Wachovia Championship in Charlotte today.

Tee-off times were brought forward five hours because of the threat of bad weather, but instead of hitting their opening blows at 9am it was 10.45am before Furyk, Goosen and Trevor Immelman could resume their challenges for the title.

Furyk led by one overnight at 11 under par, but while he missed the green at the 452-yard third and failed to get up and down Goosen, home in 30 for a third round 65 after trailing by seven at halfway, rolled in an 11-foot birdie putt.

His fellow South African Immelman, seeking his first US Tour victory, remained 10 under and joint second, now with Furyk.

Justin Rose, 17th at the start of the day on four under, improved to eighth with birdies at the second and third, but handed back his gains by running up a double bogey six on the next.

A bad drive took away any hope of making the green in two, but he then played a poor pitch and paid the price.
