Luke Donald looks set to pull out of Britain and Ireland’s defence of the Seve Trophy next month.

Donald insists he has yet to decide whether to take up his place in the team, captained by Colin Montgomerie, for the fourth staging of the biennial contest at The Wynyard in Billingham from September 22-25.

But, having qualified for the HSBC World Match Play at Wentworth the week before, Donald will be playing six events in seven weeks and sounded less than convincing when asked about it yesterday.

“I haven’t decided yet,” the Ryder Cup star insisted after a second round 65 gave him a share of the halfway lead in the BMW International Open in Munich.

“I know I will be playing in the match play and that will be six tournaments out of seven weeks.

“I have never played five in a row before, which I will do in Switzerland next week, so we will have to see whether I am mentally and physically fit enough to play in the Seve Trophy. It’s 50-50.”
