Lundberg leads in Moscow

Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg claimed the outright lead on the second day of the Cadillac Russian Open but it was Scotland’s Marc Warren who made the biggest move early on in ideal scoring conditions.

Lundberg, five under overnight, birdied both the par fives on the front nine, the second and fifth, and picked up another shot at the 423-yard seventh but an earlier bogey at the short fourth meant he turned in 34 at seven under.

That was one ahead of England's Tom Whitehouse, who was one of the afternoon starters, and Ben Mason.

Back-to-back birdies at the fourth and fifth lifted the Leeds golfer into a share of second place as he too turned in 34, taking advantage of the calm conditions and bright sunshine at the Le Meridien Moscow Country Club after yesterday’s incessant downpour.

One stroke back was Bromley’s Andrew Butterfield, who opened birdie-birdie before picking up another shot at the 413-yard sixth.

Warren, the 24-year-old Lanarkshire golfer, began the day two over but four birdies in five holes from the second lifted him to two under through six holes.

Worksop’s Denny Lucas recorded the best nine holes of the morning so far with a 33 which included an eagle three at the second and birdies at the next and eighth, his only blemish being a bogey five at the sixth which left him four under for the tournament, co-sanctioned by the European and Challenge Tours.
