Play was suspended on the final day of the French Open just 45 minutes before joint leaders Eduardo Romero, Jean-Francois Remesy and Jean Van de Velde were due to tee off.

As with the first round stoppage on Thursday it was because of thunderstorm activity in the Versailles area.

On nine under par the trio were one ahead of England’s Jonathan Lomas and Dane Soren Hansen.

Colin Montgomerie had played only the first hole when the siren sounded to tell the players to return to the clubhouse. He had parred it to remain two under.

The complication of the delay was that many of the field are due at Sunningdale tomorrow for Open championship qualifying.
