Torrance ahead by three in Jersey Seniors Classic
Sam Torrance carded a four-under-par 68 to storm into a three-shot lead over David J Russell after the second round of the Irvine Whitlock Jersey Seniors Classic at La Moye.
Torrance, the former European Ryder Cup captain, eagled the 478-yard par five sixth and birdied the 401-yard par four ninth to go out in an impressive 33.
The Scot dropped a shot after three-putting at the 14th but then collected his fourth eagle of the tournament with a glorious seven wood to 12 feet at the par-five 16th before dropping a shot after driving into the rough at the last.
“The bogey at the last wasn’t great but I can’t complain too much,” said Torrance. “I hit some great shots out there and it’s always pretty good to score four eagles in 36 holes. That’s always going to help the score.”
Torrance goes into the final round on eleven under par and three shots ahead of Englishman Russell who also bogeyed the last for a three-under-par 69.
“It’s always a bit of a downer to drop a shot of the last but I played great and look forward to playing with Sam again tomorrow,” Russell said.
“I’d like to have been a couple of shots closer but if I keep playing like this I have got a great chance.”
