Two months after winning his first major at the Masters – after 13 years of trying and 17 top-10 finishes – Phil Mickelson climbed to the top of the leaderboard at the United States Open today.

Two months after winning his first major at the Masters – after 13 years of trying and 17 top-10 finishes – Phil Mickelson climbed to the top of the leaderboard at the United States Open today.

Returning to a Shinnecock Hills course on which he finished fourth in 1995, Mickelson first of all completed an opening 68.
