McGrane wins in Wexford

It was a case of local pro making good at Wexford as Damian McGrane closed with a five-under-par 67 to win the Advance Cleaner pro-am tournament.

McGrane carded a tournament total of 139 after matching regulation in the first round and he won by two strokes from Finian Dwyer and Brendan McGovern.

McGrane will miss next week's Irish Club Professionals' Championship at Nuremore as he now intends to concentrate on the Challenge Tour.

He finished 52nd last year in the Order of Merit with 22,732 euro won from 11 outings.

"I will miss most of the rest of the Irish Tour this season as I want to give my time to the Challenge Tour this year. I only play in selected events at home," said Damian from Kells.

Finian Dwyer, a regular runner-up in events this season, was top of the team leaderboard with his local amateurs Mark Goodison, Ed and John Goff.

They returned 90 points to take the honours for both the second round and the overall tournament.

They took first spot overall on the back nine from Tuesday's team winners - professional Damian Mooney and Wexford amateurs Niall Stafford, Leo Booth and Tony O'Neill.
