Golf: Magee's hole-in-one makes Tour history
David Magee hit what is believed to be the first hole-in-one on a par-four in PGA Tour history and carded a five-under-par 66 in the first round of the Phoenix Open.
Magee is tied for 10th, two shots behind co-leaders Brad Elder, defending champion Tom Lehman and Scott Verplank.
World number one Tiger Woods, winless in his two appearances here, is one of six players at six-under.
But the opening round always will be remembered for Magee's adventure on the 17th hole. Just two holes earlier, he had a double-bogey seven.
Although there were still golfers on the green, Magee teed off on the 332-yard hole. His drive landed on the green, hit Tom Byrum's putter and bounced in the cup for one of the strangest holes-in-one in Tour history.
Briton Ed Fryatt heads the European challenge alongside Magee after shooting two birdies and an eagle on the back nine in his 66.
The round was suspended due to darkness with three players still having to complete the 18th hole.
