Clarke to get captaincy experience at EurAsia Cup
The second staging of the now biennial Eurasia Cup will take place in March next year, once again taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Clarke’s rival captain will be good friend and fellow ISM client, Jeev Milkha Singh of India.
“It’s not only a great honour to be asked to captain the European EurAsia Cup but it’s a great opportunity to get a close hand look at some younger guys who are doing well on the Tour, who could possibly qualify for the Ryder Cup team,” said Clarke.
“I was planning to be out in Kuala Lumpur anyway but now in accepting the captaincy role I will get more interaction with the players, and players I could very well be taking with me to Hazeltine later next year.”
Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee captured his seventh Tour title posting a final round 67 for a 17-under par total to drive off with the Porsche European Open title at Bad Griesbach in Germany.
Graeme McDowell collected his first lot of 2016 Ryder Cup points, albeit in sharing 36th place after carding a third straight 70 for a six under total.
“It’s been a good week off the back of having five weeks off and to be able to get a little confidence going,” he said.
“I hit a lot of quality shots all four days but just found greens tough to read but all in all, I am really happy with the way I have been playing since Firestone.”
McDowell now heads to this week’s $5m (€4.47m) Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, where he will team up for a first time with legendary jockey AP McCoy as his amateur partner.
Jaidee produced a flawless final round to claim victory at the Porsche European Open in Germany ahead of Englishman Graeme Storm.
Sweden’s Pelle Edberg was third, two shots behind Storm, Scott Hend of Australia was fourth and Wales’ Jamie Donaldson and England’s Ross Fisher were among four players tied for fifth.
