Williams shock at losing Tiger bag
Woods said it was “time for a change” after winning 13 of his 14 Majors with the New Zealander carrying his bag. Williams will now work for Adam Scott.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Stevie for all his help, but I think it’s time for a change,” Woods said. “Stevie is an outstanding caddie and a friend and has been instrumental in many of my accomplishments. I wish him great success in the future.” A replacement hasn’t been named.
Williams, 47, has been Tiger’s caddie since taking over from Mike Cowan 12 years ago.
Woods, 35, has been recovering from left knee and Achilles tendon injuries as well as the break-up of his marriage following revelations about his private life. Woods, who hasn’t played since he dropped out of The Players Championship in May, has made no decision on when he will return to the game. After a record 281 weeks at the top of golf’s world rankings, the star has fallen to 20th in the world and is winless since November 2009.
Williams admitted his shock at Woods’ decision.
“After 13 years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock,” said Williams.
“I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time. I have had the opportunity to work of late for Adam Scott and will now caddy for him on a permanent basis.”
