At least once in their respective careers, Paddy Tally and Cian O’Neill have held the post the other occupies now. The current Mayo coach was previously Kerry’s; the current Kerry coach previously Mayo’s.

In the lead-up to the first All-Ireland either of them was involved in, Mickey Harte ingeniously tasked another member of his backroom to imagine he was Joe Kernan for a few days to help pre-empt what curveballs Armagh might throw at a Tally-coached Tyrone in that 2003 decider.
