The GAA has confirmed that Liam Gordon will referee the All-Ireland hurling final between Cork and Tipperary. It will be the Galway native's first time officiating a senior inter-county decider.
The Killimor clubman refereed the 2019 All-Ireland U20 hurling final between Cork and Tipperary, a game the Premier County won, and one which featured many of the players who will line out on July 20th at Croke Park. He was also a linesman for Clare's victory over Cork in last year's All-Ireland final.
Gordon's umpires will be Damien Gibbons, Alan McClearn, John Larkin, and Ollie Reilly, all of whom hail from the Killimor club. Dublin's Seán Stack and Waterford's Thomas Walsh will serve as linesmen on the day. Stack will also be the standby referee. Colm McDonald from Antrim will be the sideline official and Dickie Murphy from Wexford the Hawk-Eye official.
Gordon refereed his first Liam MacCarthy game in 2020. The final will be his 18th time being the man in the middle for a top tier clash.
Already this year, Gordon has taken charge of several games involving Cork, including their Munster championship games against Clare and Limerick, and their league matches against Tipperary and Clare. He also officiated the 2020 Joe McDonagh Cup final between Antrim and Kerry, last year's Munster final clash of Limerick and Clare, and this year's All-Ireland senior club final between Na Fianna and Sarsfields.
