Kerry SFC draw: East Kerry get bye as Mid Kerry face North Kerry

Considering that there are three clubs from East Kerry - Fossa, Kilcummin and Glenflesk - through to the semi-finals of the IFC and Listry are in the Premier Junior semi-final, East Kerry manager Adrian Sheehan will be glad that some of his players will have a break before they enter the county championship at the round 2 stage in late September. They got a bye in the draw for preliminary rounds 1 and 2, which features the seven district sides.

The big clash in round 1 is between North Kerry and Mid Kerry. Beaufort and Keel are still in their respective club championships and that will not help PJ Reidy who has taken over from Peter O’Sullivan in Mid Kerry. The main problem for the districts is lack of time to prepare, with their clubs not happy to release players while still in club championship action.

West Kerry, who will be minus players from both An Ghaeltacht and Dingle, face an uphill task against St Brendans, who have both John Mitchels and Kerins O’Rahilly’s in their ranks.

The third game will see the Killian Dennehy-led St Kierans - who also have Ballymac players in their fold and will fancy their chances - against South Kerry who are finding it tough going numbers wise.

Round 2 will see the losers of St Kierans and South Kerry play East Kerry while the losers of West Kerry and St Brendans will play the losers of Mid Kerry and North Kerry.

In the event of East Kerry winning, they will go straight into round 3 and there will only be 15 teams in round 3 (10 clubs, five districts) but if East Kerry lose, they will still go into the round 3, because every team is guaranteed two games.

If East Kerry win and it’s a case of 15 teams in round 3, with the first team out getting a bye to the quarter-finals, there will be seven third round games, but East Kerry cannot get a second bye.
