Sciath na Scol: Four-goal Delea shines for Castlelyons as John The Baptist's O'Riordan ignites
Castlelyons supporters go wild.
The third day of the Allianz Sciath na Scol Chorcaí football finals got off to a flying start for St John The Baptist NS in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Thursday. Appearing in their first final, they took the honours in the F4 showdown involving two east Cork schools.
Ahead 0-4 to 0-1 at the short whistle, a hat-trick from Danny O’Riordan was the feature of a high-standard contest. His first goal - soccer style - was chipped into the net, the second came a minute later, and the third followed after he collected a Gus McSweeney free.
Gus scored six lovely points with two of these from play.
Cheered on by their biggest fan Culann Cashman, St John The Baptist were full value for their inaugural win.

Ballincurrig contributed to a wonderful occasion and are sure to have better days. Goalkeeper Joe Forrest couldn’t be faulted, Aodhan Maher and top scorer Conor O’Leary were just a few who did their best.

Scoil Naomh Eltin 2-7 Rennies 0-0
This was another derby tie, the DGF5 decider going the way of Scoil Naomh Eltin of Kinsale. The foundation of their success was laid in a steady first half that yielded points from Hannah Jones, Lauren Young and Zafferina Ballard, 0-5 to nil.
Hannah Jones got in for their opening goal in the second half, and when Lauren Young netted her second - bringing her total to 1-4 from open play - it rounded off a momentous day for her side.
Rennies NS in Belgooly couldn’t be faulted for effort with a special mention for their goalkeeper Charlie Twomey, who made several outstanding saves all through.
As well, Laura Jagoe and Leah Robinson tried their best to stem the tide.

Killeagh 3-5 Bishop Ahern NS Leamlara 0-4
Killeagh had the upper hand over Leamlara in DF6 final, another divisional battle with opening half goals setting the winners on their way. Matthew Clifford grabbed the first when he was superbly positioned to capitalise on an Alex Kirby and Finn Murphy move.
Alex Kirby then was in the right place at the right time for the second major, but only after Cathal Coleman made an initial save - huge kudos to Cathal in the Leamlara goal who was tremendous during the whole game.

Killeagh were that bit stronger though, and added a third goal by Eoin Barry to seal the win.
Leamlara never gave up the fight with Fergal O’Sullivan responsible for all four scores.
What a day for Aaron Delaney, who proudly took his place in the Leamlara team picture alongside all of his friends.

Castlelyons 5-4 Knockraha 4-3
East Cork teams were to the fore once more in the DGF6 final, at the end of which the honours went to Castlelyons for the first time after a thoroughly enjoyable match where football was the big winner.
In a nine goal thriller, there was barely time to blink, especially when it came to Amy Delea. The fantastic Castlelyons number seven was star of the show kicking four goals - three of which were scored in a hectic second half.
Her side were 2-1 to 1-1 up at half-time.

Amy Delea and Bronagh Fitzgerald grabbed the first-half goals.
Back came Knockraha with a Maisie O’Callaghan point, and they finished the half with an Ellen Murphy goal.
Amy proved unstoppable rattling the net for the next three goals.
This put them in an unassailable lead.
Knockraha, though, were far from finished. Maisie O’Callaghan raised a green flag whilst Ellen Murphy nabbed her second. And there was time for one more through Maisie O’Callaghan from a late free.
A Delea (4-2), B Fitzgerald (1-2).
M O’Callaghan (2-2, 1-0 free), E Murphy (2-1).

Scoil Naomh Mhuire Farran 4-7 Carrignavar 4-3
The thrills continued throughout an enthralling DF4 decider with neither side prepared to give in inch. Coming down the stretch, Farran narrowly led 3-4 to 3-3, and in a nail-biting finish they held out with Matthew Healy’s goal supplemented by three Tom Canty points - Tom is son of All-Ireland winner Graham.
They needed all of it because Jack O’Neill wasn’t for relenting and he completed his hat-trick for Carrignavar at the death.
Two very skilful teams fought tooth and nail for this cup, which was in honour of the late Dermot O’Driscoll, former principal of Carrignavar NS.

Cormac O’Leary’s goal got the ball rolling. Tom Canty got Farran’s second to go 2-1 up.
Jack O’Neill was equal to the task for Carrignavar, their second major came from Ronan Cunningham.
Jack O’Neill squeezed his side ahead with Carrignavar’s third goal, 3-1 to 2-3 at the break.
Harry Brennan wrestled back control for Farran with the sixth green flag of the match and it was nip-and-tuck right up until Farran bagged that 1-3.
