The throw-in time for this afternoon’s Munster senior hurling final was put back by 30 minutes due to a power outage (4.30pm).

Electricity in FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles and its environs cut out during The High Kings’ pre-match concert on the field.

Shops in the stadium, emergency services and the large screen at the Town End terrace were impacted by the outage. However, a back-up generator was working for the two scoreboards and the dressing rooms. Phone service was also under serious strain.

A statement from Munster GAA PRO Dermot Lynch confirmed the delay was for safety reasons and added that public transport services will be delayed to accommodate supporters after the game.

"Due to a power outage at Semple Stadium shortly before throw in for today’s Munster Senior Hurling Final, and the consequent facilities failure, a decision was taken to postpone the game by 30 minutes while a crew worked to resolve the faults.

The decision to postpone was taken by event management and the Gardai on the grounds of public safety and public health.

Public transport services will be delayed accordingly to accommodate supporters after the game.

We apologise to patrons and to both teams for this delay."
