Cork hurlers set to be away in opening two 2027 Munster SHC fixtures

Cork’s senior hurlers’ first two games in next year’s Munster SHC games are expected to be away, but they will have a two-week break after each of them.

In a repeat of this year’s provincial final, Cork are set to travel to face Munster and All-Ireland champions Limerick in TUS Gaelic Grounds for their provincial opener next April. They will have a bye the following weekend before they are on the road again to face Clare in Ennis.

Following that fixture, they have another fortnight’s gap prior to back-to-back home fixtures in SuperValu Páirc Ui Chaoimh against Waterford and Tipperary on successive weekends.

Although their first two games were at home, Clare experienced the same sequence of games this season as Limerick in 2024 when their opening matches were on the road. If the same rota continues, it will be Tipperary’s turn in 2027 and Waterford the following season.

Clare are again in line to begin their campaign with home matches against Tipperary and Cork, one weekend after another, followed by visits to Limerick and Waterford in the space of seven or eight days.

For what will be the third season in a row, it’s likely just one week will separate Waterford’s opening two fixtures and their closing matches against Cork and The Banner.

SuperValu Páirc Ui Chaoimh will host next year’s Munster final if Clare or Waterford are involved. It remains the Cork venue's turn to stage the "neutral" game. It will also be the venue in the event Cork and Limerick contest it for the third season running.

Also owing to home-away agreements, a first Cork-Tipperary final since 2006 would be played in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, while a Limerick-Tipperary showdown would take place in FBD Semple Stadium.

As per the agreement with the Leinster Council, the Munster final is due to be staged on a Saturday with the Leinster decider arranged for the following day.

With no major changes expected to the schedule of the master fixtures calendar, a mid-April start to the provincial hurling championships is anticipated. The Joe McDonagh Cup may commence later depending on whether Central Council want to shift its conclusion to July.

Next year’s Division 1A is the start of a new cycle meaning counties who had home advantage against others this past season may do so again in 2027.

As before, all seven counties – Clare, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick and Tipperary – will each have three home and three away matches. Two of Cork’s home games earlier this year came against Offaly and Waterford, who were both relegated to Division 1B.

Provisional 2027 Munster SHC fixtures Round 1: Limerick v Cork, Tipperary v Waterford.

Round 2: Clare v Tipperary; Waterford v Limerick.

Round 3: (separate weekends): Clare v Cork (first); Tipperary v Limerick (second).

Round 4: Cork v Waterford, Limerick v Clare.

Round 5: Cork v Tipperary, Waterford v Clare.
