Browne yet to decide about inter-county future

Waterford hurling legend Tony Browne is yet to decide whether he will play for the Déise in this summer's Munster and All-Ireland Championships.

Browne sat out Waterford's Allianz Hurling League campaign, but trained with the panel on Tuesday night and is due to embark on a specialised fitness programme before he makes a decision on his playing future.

The veteran defender turns 40 in July and if he decides to play on with the Déise this summer, it would be an incredible 22nd consecutive Championship season for the Mount Sion clubman.

Confirming that Browne is weighing up his options at present, Waterford hurling manager Michael Ryan told the GAA website: "Tony was back training with us on Tuesday night but hasn't made any commitment yet.

"He will work away on a personal fitness programme for the next three to four weeks before making any decision on his future."

A three-time All-Star, there is no doubt that Browne would dearly love an elusive All-Ireland SHC title to add to his four Munster winner's medals.

But only time will tell if his body is up to another Championship run in the Déise colours. Ryan's side are building toward their Munster SHC quarter-final clash with Clare on Sunday, June 2.
