Two-month suspension likely for Galvin
It is understood that Kerry footballer Paul Galvin is to be handed an eight-week ban from the GAA's Competitions Control Committee (CCCC), following an incident during the Kingdom's Munster SFC semi-final replay victory over Cork at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
Should the proposed ban be implemented, Galvin will be on the sidelines until August 8, ruling him out of the Munster final and all action up to the All-Ireland quarter-finals which are set to take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Galvin featured as a first-half substitute during last Sunday's game, and tussled with Eoin Cadogan in the 70th minute, appearing to stick his finger in the Cork defender's mouth, and 'fish-hook' him.
The incident was apparently missed by match referee Pat McEnaney at the time, but was captured by TV cameras and shown on RTE's 'The Sunday Game' programme.
The incident was discussed at a meeting of the CCCC yesterday where they decided to refer the matter back to McEnaney for review, after which a four-week ban was proposed.
However, as Galvin already served a ban for the same category offence this year, under Rule 7.2b, which incorporates behaviour that may be deemed 'dangerous to an opponent', the suspension will be automatically doubled.
The Finuge clubman is no stranger to the GAA's disciplinary process, and earlier this year served a two-month ban for an incident involving Cadogan during the Kerry v Cork National League Division 1 tie in February.
Two years ago, Galvin missed virtually all of Kerry's Championship campaign after slapping the notebook out of referee Paddy Russell's hand after he was red carded in a Munster SFC game against Clare.
