Tuesday meeting to discuss McCarthy's future
A special meeting of the Limerick County Board has been fixed for next Tuesday with the future of senior hurling manager Justin McCarthy set to be the main topic for discussion.
A joint "notice of motion" to call the meeting was made yesterday by the Adare, Ahane, Croom, Garryspillane and Patrickswell clubs. It is believed others also submitted motions.
Under GAA rules, a minimum of five days notice is required to call a meeting, and delegates were yesterday informed that it will definitely go ahead on Tuesday next.
While it was expected that clubs would table a motion expressing a vote of no confidence in McCarthy, the motion instead calls for decisions taken at the December, January and February meetings over McCarthy's future to be rescinded.
At the December meeting a vote of confidence was taken in McCarthy and his management team, while John Tuohy was appointed as a selector in January.
At last month's meeting Pat Creed was appointed as senior hurling liason officer. Since then Bruree clubman James O'Brien has returned to the senior hurling planel, although the rest of the 2009 squad have failed to return.
With a significant split currently within the clubs, it is unlikely that the motion will gain the necessary two-thirds majority.
