Galway sweating over injuries
Young forward Sean Armstrong has been added to Galway's lengthening injury list ahead of Saturday's GAA Football All-Ireland quarter-final showdown with Kerry.
Armstrong is expected to play no part in this weekend's high-profile clash after injuring his groin during a training session on Monday.
Galway manager Liam Sammon is keeping his fingers crossed that experienced defender Declan Meehan can shake off a hamstring injury and feature against Kerry.
However, Sammon said it would be 'a close call' whether midfielder Joe Bergin, who is back in contention after a long-term Achilles injury, could play this weekend.
That seems unlikely as the Mountbellew/Moylough clubman damaged a quad muscle in training last week.
Two-time All-Star defender Meehan is reportedly struggling with the hamstring injury he picked up in last month's Connacht final win over Mayo.
Galway captain Padraic Joyce said that Meehan's chances of playing against Kerry are slim.
Nicky Joyce, who underwent a groin operation two weeks ago, will be another notable absentee for the Tribesmen.
Meanwhile, centre-back Aidan O'Mahony has emerged as a doubt for reigning All-Ireland champions Kerry.
O'Mahony is currently on crutches after sustaining a leg injury during last Sunday's qualifier win over Monaghan.
The Rathmore clubman had his leg X-rayed at Kerry General Hospital on Monday and it showed up severe bruising above his Achilles.
According to sources, O'Mahony will undergo a couple of treatments of cryotherapy in the hope that he can recover in time for the quarter-final.
