Dublin - Tyrone clash scheduled for Saturday week

The GAA have confirmed the dates, times and venues for the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship quarter-finals, with three of the matches taking place next weekend and Dublin and Tyrone due to square off on Saturday week.

This coming Saturday will see a football double header at Croke Park.

Dublin's quarter-final tie was originally pencilled in for next Saturday (August 9), but the Leinster champions' showdown with old rivals Tyrone has now been postponed by a week.

The move comes after both Armagh and Galway objected to proposals to play their quarter-finals at provincial venues.

The two encounters at Croke Park next Saturday will see recently-crowned Ulster champions Armagh clash with Wexford, the conquerors of Down, at 2pm, followed by the meeting of Connacht champions Galway and reigning All-Ireland champions Kerry at 4pm.

That means Pat O'Shea's Kingdom side will be back in action just six days after their 1-13 to 0-13 qualifier win over Monaghan.

Cork, who beat Kerry in last month's Munster final, will go head-to-head with Kildare on Sunday afternoon in the third quarter-final at Croke Park (throw-in 2pm).

GAA headquarters will play host to three inter-county games next Sunday with the All-Ireland minor hurling semi-final between Kilkenny and Tipperary at 12.15pm and the All-Ireland senior hurling semi-final between Kilkenny and Cork at 4pm.

The news of a Cork double header will be music to the ears of Rebels hurling boss Gerald McCarthy.

Last week, McCarthy urged the GAA to put the Cork footballers and hurlers on the same bill.

"I think it would be absolutely brillant if the GAA saw its way to having the two Cork games on together," he said.

"I think the supporters have to be taken into consideration at some stage.

"It costs a lot of money to attend these games, to travel to Thurles or Dublin and then paying for match tickets."

And with a ticket scramble sure to ensue, Dublin supporters will also be happy that their side's game against Tyrone is a stand-along fixture on Saturday week.
