Donegal name side for clash with Cork
For the first time since mid-June, Donegal manager Brian McIver has been able to list regular free-taker Michael Doherty in his team.
Doherty has been named at left-corner-forward for tomorrow's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final between the Tír Chonaill men and Munster champions Cork at Croke Park (throw-in 4pm).
The 22-year-old student, who hails from the Four Masters club, has been out of action since injuring his knee in the Ulster semi-final defeat of Derry on June 19.
Adding to his burgeoning reputation, Doherty, who hit 4-48 in ten National League games, scored 1-4 against Derry and both former All-Star Adrian Sweeney and James Gallagher have failed to match his free-taking prowess in recent weeks.
In all, McIver has made two changes to the side that battled past Fermanagh last weekend.
Ardara midfielder Brendan Boyle has shaken off a calf injury to start - he replaces Anthony Thompson - while the experienced Gallagher has lost his corner berth to Doherty.
Forwards Rory Kavanagh (hand) and Ciaran Bonner (knee) have recovered from knocks to retain their places, while there is one positional switch up front with team captain Christy Toye, who stands at 6ft 3in, moving to full-forward to combat Cork skipper Derek Kavanagh's aerial ability.
The 5ft 8in Leon Thompson, who impressed with two second half points against Fermanagh, moves out to the right corner.
Donegal have never met Cork before in championship fare, but they did beat the Rebels 3-11 to 1-7 in a League game at Ballyshannon last year.
DONEGAL (SFC v Cork) - P Durcan; N McGee, E McGee, K Lacey; T Donoghue, B Monaghan, B Dunnion; N Gallagher, B Boyle; C Bonner, M Hegarty, R Kavanagh; L Thompson, C Toye (capt), M Doherty.
