Herbert hopes to go distance in Kick Fada
Mark Herbert from Co Kildare will be aiming to make it five All-Ireland titles in a row at the MBNA Kick Fada final on Saturday at Bray Emmets Club in Co Wicklow.
Herbert will be among over 30 inter-county players, male and female, shooting for glory and a coveted national title at the fifth annual MBNA Kick Fada.
Among the big names attempting to prevent the Kildare man winning five in a row will be Mattie Forde, Shane Curran, Ciaran McManus and Padraig Clancy, Darren and Johnny Magee, Fermanagh's Liam McBarron, Armagh's Paul Hearty and Glen Kelly from the 'Underdogs'.
The MBNA Kick Fada competition, football's equivalent of the Puc Fada, determines the champion "long and accurate kicker" of Gaelic football.
Each participant gets three chances to clear the ball over the bar in a specially widened goal to qualify for the next level.
Mark Herbert has won every final since the inaugural MBNA Kick Fada in 2000 and holds the current All-Ireland and world record with an impressive 72 metres, kicked over the bar from the ground.
In last year's final Herbert's 59-metre effort was enough to beat Gerry McGill from St Vincent's, Dublin by two metres.
Mary Sheridan from Seneschalstown, Co Meath took the ladies' title with a kick of 40 metres.
