Galway dual star Kerins quits football

Former dual All-Ireland finalist Alan Kerins has quit football to focus on hurling alone in Galway - but not until after Christmas because he's heading Down Under.

Kerins was in Rome for Saturday's Railway Cup final and is set to head off for Australia where he'll spend the winter before returning home to hurling action.

Kerins said: "It's just too intense trying to balance the two. I told John O'Mahony that I was finishing the football and he totally accepted my decision. When I get back it'll be hurling alone. I need that singular focus."
