Birr hero Whelahan gets Limerick job

Successful Birr manager Pat Joe Whelahan has been appointed as the new Limerick senior hurling manager following a unanimous county board vote.

Birr supremo Whelahan was ratified as the new boss on Tuesday night and succeeds former underage guru Dave Keane in the position.

A Limerick spokesman said: "We see the appointment as quite a coup because Pat Joe is very highly thought of in Limerick. He comes to the job with a huge amount of experience and honours."
