Whelahan linked with Limerick post

Limerick hurling chiefs are ready to offer successful Birr manager Pat Joe Whelahan the chance to follow in Dave Keane's footsteps as senior county boss.

Former Offaly boss Whelahan, who led Birr to a record four All-Ireland club titles back in March, is reported to have agreed to accept the Limerick hotseat vacated by Keane.

Whelahan is one of the most decorated managers in the game and the former St Rynagh's player, father of Offaly stars Brian, Simon and Barry, will inherit a hugely talented though often fractious Limerick squad.
